ALAKH PANDEY: A Chalk, A Camera And Millions of Dreams

Alakh Pandey, fondly known as Physics Wallah, is a testament to how passion and perseverance can change countless lives. Born in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Alakh came from a humble background where resources were scarce. Yet, his love for teaching and deep understanding of physics drove him to dream beyond his circumstances. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said Nelson Mandela, a belief Alakh seemed to embody from the very start.

He began by tutoring local students, earning just enough to support himself. In 2016, armed with little more than a whiteboard, a smartphone, and an unwavering dedication to his students, Alakh started uploading free physics lectures on YouTube. His clarity of explanation, relatable examples, and genuine concern for student success quickly drew a massive audience. Soon, Physics Wallah became a trusted name in IIT JEE and NEET preparation.

In 2020, he launched the Physics Wallah app, making high-quality courses available at prices that middle-class and rural students could afford. His initiative disrupted India’s expensive edtech industry, proving that accessibility need not come at the cost of excellence. In 2022, Physics Wallah crossed a milestone few educational ventures in India have ever reached, joining the country’s growing list of unicorns

Alakh’s work is more than just teaching formulas and theories. It is about instilling confidence in students who feel limited by their circumstances. His journey from a small tutoring room to building a unicorn edtech company is a reminder that true impact is measured not by profit alone but by the lives transformed.
