NIKHIL KAMATH: From School Dropout To India’s Youngest Billionaire

Nikhil Kamath’s journey is proof that the traditional path is not the only road to success. Born in Bengaluru in 1986, Nikhil was never a conventional student. He dropped out of school at the age of 14 and began selling phones to earn a living. Soon after, he found himself drawn to the stock market, teaching himself the art of trading without formal training. “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today,” said Franklin D. Roosevelt, a sentiment that could well describe Nikhil’s determination to carve his own path.

In 2010, he co-founded Zerodha with his brother Nithin Kamath. Their vision was to make stock trading more transparent, affordable, and technology-driven. What started as a small venture grew into India’s largest stock brokerage, serving over a crore clients and disrupting an industry that had long been inaccessible to the common investor. His ability to identify gaps in the market and innovate fearlessly has redefined the way Indians participate in financial markets.

Beyond business, Nikhil’s curiosity and willingness to explore diverse ideas shine through his podcast, “WTF is with Nikhil Kamath.” Here, he converses with leaders, artists, thinkers, and even the Prime Minister of India, discussing topics ranging from economics to philosophy. These dialogues reflect a mind that refuses to be limited to one domain.

Nikhil Kamath’s story is a reminder that success does not always follow the rules set by society. It is built on persistence, curiosity, and the courage to start from scratch.
